After World War One, American's changed what environment they lived in.
rural-urban split.
After the first world war, market prices dropped, which caused depression to many farmers, which caused farmers to stop farming, which caused these ex-farming farmers to move to a new place called "the suburbs". Why did these ex-farmers decide to move here? The economy was making greatly significant process, which totally skipped rural areas and went right to the cities. In the 1920's near 6,000,000 people moved to the more populated areas of America. Because of this, public high school attendance went from 2.2 miollion in 1920, to 4.4 million in 1930. Because of such population grotwth in the cities, new forms of transportation were formed, such as electric trolleys, which were carts that ran through the street, electrically powered by a wire that lead them to their destination. In the 1920's, buses replaced trolleys in many areas, because buses did not need wires and were much less expensive. 70,000 buses were working through America by the 1920's, and cars were also more affordable to middle-class families.
